Mixed-Reality Simulation

I partnered with special education faculty to help develop, administer, and evaluate mixed-reality simulation experiences for future special education teachers. My role in this process included helping plan the simulation materials, coordinating technological aspects of the simulation, reviewing data collected from the simulation experiences, and preparing presentations and manuscripts about the projects.

Connected Learning

Mixed-reality simulation helps to situate learning in authentic contexts. Through simulated experiences, teacher education students were able to practice high-leverage teaching skills in carefully curated circumstances with peer support. Our mixed-reality simulations have included prompting, error correction, student data collection, and an individualized education program (IEP) meeting, all highly relevant skills for future educators.

Coaching and Feedback

Our mixed-reality simulation experiences also explored a myriad of coaching and feedback approaches. We utilized coaching during and following simulations with rubrics and checklists and solicited learner feedback about feedback preferences. Mixed-reality simulation provides routine opportunities for instructors to offer constructive and actionable feedback accompanied by repeated practice opportunities.
